Sam-E is the trade name for S-Adenosyl methionine. It is essential for the body because more than 40 metabolic reactions are dependent on Sam-E. The most common of these reactions is the synthesis of homocysteine. The metabolic reaction as such is not very complicated and Sam-E transforms to homocysteine in a multi step process.
The reactions are actually a cycle because this homocysteine converts back into methionine which is a component of Sam-E damiana leafs with the addition of vitamin B12.
This homocysteine is very very important because Sam-E information shows that when homocysteine levels go up there is a very high possibility of arteriosclerosis and even cancer. This homocysteine cannot also be included in the diet and needs to be synthesized in the body. Also once high levels of homocysteine has been identified, it is not possible to reverse the damage by including folic acid or vitamin B12 supplements in the diet.
Sam-E ecstasy is available as does your teen have premenstrual dysphoric disorder in many countries although it’s use as a natural antidepressant has not been studied too extensively. What has been found though is that Sam-E has a very therapeutic effect on people with Alzheimer’s disease.
This Sam-E information is incomplete though because it has not been found if this is due to the inclusion of vitamin B12 supplements or if it due to the Sam-E itself.
Studies on Sam-E
All studies with Sam-E are nascent and it will take some time before we know exactly what kind of beneficial effect it has on our bodies. As of now the only thing that is known is that they do not seem to work as a natural antidepressant, and that including Sam-E ecstasy in a healthy person’s diet does not seem to make any difference.
Sam-E Side Effects
There are dangers with using Sam-E though and there are Sam-E side effects that are potentially dangerous. Some of the milder Sam-E side effects are dryness of the mouth, constipation, lack of appetite, nausea, anxiety, sweating and nervousness. Yet some physicians are of the opinion that in very small doses, Sam-E will actually help in treating depression.
There are other more serious Sam-E side effects though, and there is Sam-E information to say that in a small percentage of patients who are taking Sam-E to treat depression or bipolar disorder, it results in mania like symptoms. More research is however necessary before any conclusion can be reached.
Also Sam-E ecstasy increases the levels of serotonin in the brain and so it may be potentially fatal to include Sam-E MDMA with other SSID medication. Even natural antidepressant supplements like St John’s wort can cause a fatal increase of serotonin levels in the body.
There are a number of other Sam-E side effects that are being studied right now, and doctors are still not convinced that its benefits outweigh its defects. Not only is more Sam-E information needed, it is best to check with a doctor before you start taking the supplement.
Not only that but like a number of other enzymes that are synthesized by the body, taking Sam-E supplements has not necessarily brought about any beneficial effects. Research has only proved that its lack can lead to a number of diseases, it cannot cure them. Its benefits as a preventive medicine though has not fully been studied yet.
